CORE empowers Myanmar’s solar industry through training & collaboration

CORE is driving the growth and advancement of decentralised renewable energy in Myanmar. The efforts aim to build local expertise and drive the adoption of solar energy for homes and businesses.

As part of a six-week intensive training programme for decentralised solar system design and installation, 30 students gained hands-on experience in system planning and implementation. The programme took place between 12 November and 20 December 2024 in Mawlamyine, Myanmar. Participants learned critical skills in designing, installing, and maintaining off-grid solar systems, with a focus on productive uses such as powering rubber processing, fisheries, and rice milling.

In addition, a dedicated workshop was organised for 32 representatives from local solar companies and businesses on 15 December 2024 to explore opportunities for integrating solar into various industries. The event included a Training of Trainers (ToT) session for employers interested in growing their solar businesses and hiring skilled graduates from the programme. Solar providers also networked with local businesses to discuss potential projects and implementation strategies.

Students had the unique opportunity to visit an off-grid solar installation at a rubber processing facility near Mawlamyine, Myanmar. Project engineers provided a detailed walkthrough of the system, allowing students to connect their training to real-world applications.

Mee Panyar, a technical training provider specialising in Myanmar’s decentralised solar industry, played a key role in delivering the programme. The company focuses on energy access, as well as commercial and industrial solar solutions, to empower local communities and businesses.

These initiatives underscore CORE and Mee Panyar’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce and expanding renewable energy adoption across Myanmar. Follow-up workshops will incorporate feedback from participants to address ongoing capacity-building needs and further support the sector’s growth.
