Building local expertise: USAID-PEP & CORE deliver mini-grid design course

USAID-PEP, in partnership with the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) through the CORE initiative, recently concluded a 5-week training course on Mini-Grid Technical System Design. Delivered in a hybrid format, the course included four weeks of online sessions followed by a full-day workshop in Port Moresby on 3 December 2024.
A total of 106 participants took part, with 60 attending the final workshop, representing solar and electrical businesses, engineering and mining companies, development partners, universities, and government agencies.

This initiative reflects USAID-PEP’s ongoing efforts to enhance local expertise in Papua New Guinea’s energy sector. By equipping businesses and professionals with advanced technical skills, the USAID-PEP and CORE are seeking to foster homegrown innovation to support the development of sustainable electrification solutions across the country.
